Will I train with real firefighting equipment?

Yes, during your Polytechnic in Fire Technology and Safety diploma, you will get hands-on training with real firefighting equipment. The course is designed to make you confident and skilled in actual emergencies, so practical learning is a major part of the curriculum.

You will work with different types of fire extinguishers, including water, foam, dry chemical powder, and CO₂ extinguishers. You’ll learn how each extinguisher works, where it should be used, and how to apply it safely during a fire. This helps you understand the correct method of controlling different classes of fire.

You will also train with hydrant systems, which are used in industries and large buildings. You’ll practice hose handling, nozzle operations, water jet techniques, pressure control, and teamwork required during fire suppression operations. These exercises help you build physical strength, coordination, and real-time decision-making skills.

Another key part of your training involves the Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). You’ll learn how to wear, check, and use the breathing apparatus while entering smoke-filled or toxic environments. This builds courage and teaches you how to remain safe during rescue missions.

Along with this, you will use fire alarms, smoke detectors, ladders, rescue ropes, stretchers, cutting tools, and communication equipment in practical sessions. Mock drills are regularly conducted to help you respond quickly and confidently during emergencies.

Training usually takes place in well-equipped fire labs, simulation rooms, and outdoor drill grounds, where you practice fire control, rescue operations, and safety management under the guidance of experienced trainers.
