What subjects will I study in this course?

In a Polytechnic in Medical Lab Technician course, you study a variety of subjects that help you understand the human body and the laboratory processes used to diagnose diseases. You will learn anatomy and physiology, which explain how the human body works and how different organs function. These subjects give you the basic medical knowledge needed to understand patient samples and test results.

You will also study pathology, biochemistry, and microbiology, where you learn about diseases, blood components, bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms that cause infections. These subjects are very important because most laboratory tests are related to identifying disease-causing organisms or abnormalities in the body.

Along with theory, you will learn practical skills like blood testing, urine testing, sample collection, and lab safety rules. You will be trained in handling lab equipment, including microscopes, centrifuges, analysers, and sterilisation tools. The course also teaches record keeping, quality control, and report preparation to make you job-ready.
