What is Diploma in Pharmacy (D. Pharma)?

The Diploma in Pharmacy (D. Pharma) is a 2-year professional diploma course in the field of pharmacy. It is designed for students who want to start a career in the healthcare and pharmaceutical sector in a short period of time. This course focuses on the basic principles of pharmacy, medicine handling, and patient care.

During the two years of study, students learn how medicines are prepared, stored, tested, and safely dispensed to patients. The course includes both classroom learning and practical laboratory training. Subjects usually cover pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacology, human anatomy, drug store management, hospital pharmacy, and health education. These subjects help students understand how drugs work in the human body and how to guide patients properly.

Practical training is an important part of D. Pharma. Students work in pharmacy labs where they learn medicine formulation, dosage calculation, labelling, and quality control. Many institutions also provide hospital or community pharmacy training to give real-world experience.

After completing the course from a recognised institution approved by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), students can register as pharmacists with their State Pharmacy Council. This registration allows them to legally work in medical stores, hospitals, clinics, and pharmaceutical companies.
