Isn’t aerospace only available at IITs?

No, aerospace engineering is not limited to just the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). While IITs such as IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, and a few others are well-known for their aerospace programs, they are not the only government institutions offering this course. In fact, several other government colleges and National Institutes of Technology (NITs) also provide aerospace engineering programs.

For example, the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) in Thiruvananthapuram is a premier government institute that specializes in space and aerospace education. Similarly, institutes like Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), and Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) also offer government-recognized aerospace courses with strong practical training and research opportunities.

This means the field is becoming more accessible to students from diverse regions and academic backgrounds. Students who may not secure a seat at IITs still have several excellent options to study aerospace engineering at reputable government colleges in India. These colleges also have good faculty, infrastructure, placement support, and collaboration with organizations like ISRO, DRDO, and HAL.

So, even if you don’t make it to an IIT, you can still build a successful aerospace career through other top-tier government aerospace engineering colleges in India.
