How much salary will I earn as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer?

Because keeping an airplane safe is a very big responsibility, airlines pay a lot of money to keep good engineers happy. Your salary grows very fast as you gain more experience:

  • When you are a fresher (trainee): Right after college, you will join an airline as a junior technician or trainee. During this learning phase, you assist the senior engineers. You will earn a very good starting salary of around ₹25,000 to ₹50,000 per month (which equals 3 to 6 Lakhs per year).
  • When you become licensed: After a few years of working and passing your final government exams (conducted by the DGCA in India), you get your full AME license. Now, you are a senior engineer who can officially sign the release certificates. Your salary will take a massive jump to INR 6 lakhs to 10 lakhs per year.
  • When you become a Senior or go Abroad: Senior engineers and quality assurance (QA) inspectors easily make INR 10 lakhs to 18 lakhs per year. Furthermore, because a Boeing or Airbus airplane is built exactly the same way in India as it is in America or Dubai, your skills are valid globally. Licensed AMEs working abroad for international airlines easily earn INR 20 lakhs or more per year!
