The Diploma in Pharmacy (D. Pharma) course is a 2-year full-time professional diploma program. It is designed for students who want to start a career in the pharmacy and healthcare sector in a short period of time. The two-year duration makes it one of the fastest ways to enter the pharmaceutical field after completing 12th with science subjects.
The course is usually divided into two academic years, and each year includes theory classes, practical laboratory sessions, and internal assessments. Students attend regular lectures where they learn about pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacology, human anatomy, drug store management, and hospital pharmacy. These subjects build a strong foundation in medicine handling and patient care.
Practical training is an important part of the 2-year program. Students spend time in well-equipped pharmacy laboratories where they learn medicine preparation, dosage calculation, labelling, quality testing, and safe drug storage. Many institutions also include hospital or pharmacy training to give students real-world experience before completing the course.
Because the course duration is shorter compared to degree programs like B. Pharma, D. Pharma allows students to quickly gain professional skills and enter the job market. After completing the 2-year diploma from a recognised institution approved by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), students can register as pharmacists and begin working in hospitals, medical stores, and pharmaceutical companies.
