Can I join directly in the second year (lateral entry)?

Yes, most Polytechnics in ECE colleges in Delhi, including well-known institutes like Puran Murti, offer lateral entry admission to eligible students. Lateral entry allows you to skip the first year and directly join the second year of the Electronics and Communication Engineering diploma. This option is specially designed for students who have already studied technical subjects and have a stronger academic base.

Students who have completed 10+2 with Science (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) or those who hold a 2-year ITI certificate in a related trade such as Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, or Computer-based ITI disciplines can apply for this entry route. The reason they are allowed into the second year is that their previous education already covers many of the first-year topics like basic electronics, mathematics, physics, and workshop practice.

Lateral entry saves one full year, making the diploma shorter and more cost-effective. It also helps students enter the job market earlier or move faster toward higher education, like B.Tec,h through LEET.

Some colleges may conduct a small counselling or verification process, but the overall admission process is simple and student-friendly. So, if you come from an ITI background or have completed 12th Science, joining directly in the second year is a great advantage.
