Yes, many Polytechnic in ECE Colleges in India offer lateral entry for students who have completed Class 12 (Science stream) or have a relevant ITI certification. Lateral entry means you can skip the first year and directly join the second year of the diploma programme.
If you have completed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM), you already have a strong foundation in technical subjects. This makes it easier for you to understand electronic circuits, communication systems, and digital logic taught in the ECE diploma. That’s why colleges allow you to enter directly into the second year.
Similarly, students who have completed a 2-year ITI in a related trade—such as Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, or Communication—are also eligible for lateral entry. ITI students receive hands-on technical training, which aligns well with the practical nature of polytechnic coursework.
The admission process may vary by state or college. Some states conduct a separate lateral entry exam, while others offer seats based on merit in Class 12 or ITI performance.
