Can I enter directly into the 2nd year?

Yes, you can enter directly into the second year of the Diploma in Electrical Engineering if you meet certain eligibility criteria. This process is known as lateral entry, and it is designed to allow students with relevant qualifications to skip the first year of the diploma and begin from the second year, or third semester. This option is particularly suitable for students who have already completed their Class 12 in the science stream, especially with subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. It is also open to those who have successfully completed a two-year ITI (Industrial Training Institute) course in a relevant trade such as Electrician, Wireman, or Electrical Technician.

Lateral entry is a widely accepted system in many AICTE-approved colleges across Delhi NCR, including well-known institutions like Puran Murti Campus. It helps students save one full academic year while continuing their education in a more advanced and focused manner. The curriculum in the second year builds on the basic knowledge gained in ITI or Class 12, making it easier for these students to understand core concepts in electrical circuits, machines, power systems, and instrumentation.

Admission through lateral entry can be done either through direct college admission or through state-level entrance exams and counseling, depending on the institute’s policy. Once admitted, lateral entry students enjoy the same academic opportunities, lab access, faculty mentorship, and placement support as regular diploma students.
