Indeed, there are many entrance exams one can take after a diploma in engineering to laterally enter into a B.Tech course. Among the various entrance exams conducted in India for lateral entry, the LEET (Lateral Entry Entrance Test) is the most common. Most of the states and universities conduct their own lateral entry examinations, where the diploma holders can join the second year of the B.Tech course directly. These exams usually test their knowledge in engineering stream subjects undertaken at the diploma level, such as mathematics, physics, and engineering fundamentals. For instance, some institutions conduct specific entrance exams for lateral entry candidates, for example, Punjab Technical University (PTU), Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU).
Besides the state-level entrance examinations, some prominent institutions and private universities also allow lateral entry to some extent through the entrance exams of their own university or by counseling process. JEE Main and BITSAT, sometimes offers lateral entry options to the aspirants depending upon the institutions policy. Aspirants should refer eligibility criteria and special entrance exams available for lateral entry in specific colleges of their choice. This will mostly ask for minimum percent of the particular diploma course attended by them with qualification in appropriate entrance exam in order to seek a second-year direct entry in the B.Tech course.
